What is an Add-On Domain?

An Add-On domain will allow you to host an additional domain name under the same web hosting account. It is accomplished by pointing the nameservers of the new domain name to the server and simply adding the Add-On domain in your Control Panel. You will then have a folder on your main domain that will contain all of the files and folders for the Add-On domain. We have recenlty added Add-On domain capability to most of our web hosting plans. For example, our Virtual Professional 200mb account is like having 2 web hosting accounts because it comes with Add-On domain.

An add domain name is one of the website marketing strategy. You register an expired domain name, premium domain name or new domain and then add to your existing website. However it is not the same as sub-domain name.

An add-on domain is a new domain that is added on top of
your main domain. It creates a sub directory within your
main web hosting directory but can show a different web
site. The add-on domain collects the information from the
sub domain directory using the same space and bandwidth as
your main account, however it won't have its own cpanel
.

When allowed by your web host, an addon domain allows a new domain name to link to a subdirectory of your account. The addon domain’s files will be stored in a subdirectory of your public_html folder. Creating an addon domain gives you the ability to control multiple domains from a single account.

An addon domain is a fully functional domain that can be created from your control panel. Think of it as having multiple hosting packages all sharing the same control panel. You can give them email addresses, forwarders, and more of the same way you do for your main domain on the account.
