RE: Affiliate programs
Roogle, Affiliate programs are the programs that pay incentive for selling or generating a lead for the company and its products or services.
While Adsense is PPC (Pay per click) so you get paid for visitors who click on the advertising banners provided by google adsense.

RE: Affiliate programs
Whoops, Nameslot! I was the one that asked about the differences between affiliate programs and Google AdWords!
But thank you for clearing it up - now I understand the concept of both advertising programs.
My advice would be to consider the concept of the site and decide whether or not it would warrant the viewers buying products readily available.

RE: Affiliate programs
Oh man. My bad. Yes I think I am still in my sleep. A sleeping admin posting on the forums

Yes some sites do perform well with affiliate programs rather then any PPC program. While some sites only perform well under PPC conditions and the affiliate program earnings are not much on it. It depends on the type of people that are visiting your site. For example if I put bathing soaps ads on the forums here then I know it is not going to convert.

RE: Affiliate programs
Don't worry about it, Nameslot. I bet you're getting mixed up because of all of the new users' questions. ;-)
I was taking a look at some affiliates programs for one of my upcoming projects. I think I found a really useful one! It's the Cooking Affiliates Program!
I will likely adopt this affiliates program when I get a steady amount of traffic on my upcoming project.
Back to the topic at hand, it might be good to consider the target audience when looking for a good affiliates program... my approach was to search for an affiliate which would allow to sell for cooking supplies... but I'm not sure about the larger affiliate program markets. They might have some specialty items.

RE: Affiliate programs
As per your recent post I assume you are going to start a cooking blog.
There are many ways to monetize it. The one you have already found. If that doesn't works you can try CJ with merchants who are selling cooking utensils and non-stick cookwares, etc. You can even make a script that allows people to register on your site and surf the outer area. The premium area which would contain special recipes can be a Paid one and you can charge $10 - $20 for 1 year membership from each one. Now who wouldn't want to spend $10 for nice and original recipes
Then just focus on making more and more subscribers for your site. In some months you can even hire chefs to write recipes for you and they will be most happy to give you some recipes for some dollars.
If we ponder more on this topic I think 50 more ways can be found to extract the money from your site. The thing is make a site and make it nice one. Stick around a little and read some online things. If you need any help while your project is going on, We would be really happy to guide you. [LOL, as if we are Gurus ]
It is just that if something good can be done for you then it would be a pleasure for me. Because I have still not forgotten the Hosting provider who gave me a free hosting to get started. After 2 years his hosting business was going down and I had to jump in and bring him back in the market from the resources that I had.

RE: Affiliate programs
hey everyone :D,
Im not much into affiliate programs.. But i have just used CJ. an it has worked out somewhat for me...
We are all mostly webmasters. So have you tried HOSTING AFFILIATES... I have always used them. And for single hosting they are paying $100.... I have refered few of my friends for hosting and made a good hefty commission...
As we know so many ppl want websites this days.. And just look out for webhosting affiliates, They really pay well...
Thank you

RE: Affiliate programs
Thanks for the support, everyone!
I am starting a cooking blog and article website. It will list a new recipe daily and give statistics and information about the daily dish. I have several ideas for incorporating advertising into the website thanks to the informative posts here at Nameslot.
I liked the membership idea you mentioned, Nameslot... something to think about in the coming months.
Like I said in earlier posts, I am probably going to start out with some simple pay-per-click advertising to get me started, and then bring out the affiliates programs when the site gets going.
I think that is a general rule that most website developers should follow: start with pay-per-click and move onto affiliates programs if the target audience would likely purchase them.
